The Project

Introduction

Fire stations demand heating solutions that are reliable, efficient, and capable of delivering comfort instantly in high-pressure environments. Over the past year, we’ve partnered with Hereford and Worcester Fire Service to help modernise their facilities, replacing outdated systems with our advanced Connect Infrared heating technology. This collaboration has focused on improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon impact, and ensuring their teams have the responsive heating they need — exactly when and where it’s required.

Improving the Net Zero Effect:

It has been our pleasure to support the team at Hereford and Worcester Fire Service with a number of installations of Connect Infrared heating products over the last twelve months.

The updating of fire station heating is an ongoing process and at present we have supported five fire stations including: –

Eardisley Fire Station

Kington Fire Station

Fownhope Fire Station

Leominster Fire Station

Whitchurch Fire Station

The main emphasis was to improve the Net Zero effect and remove old gas heating and update existing electric heaters. Providing instant heat with control

Heating Assessment

Connect are able to specify the correct heater for the expectations of the zone, for example in the rest rooms and offices connect Infrared panels are used, either in false ceilings or placed on walls, each zone with its own relay and linkage to the central hub. In the drying rooms the heating needs to be effective and allow the crews clothing to be ready for the next operational commitment.

As shown in this design you can see Connect Infrared Onyx heaters are installed near to the appliance (Fire Engine), these are more powerful and can be installed in higher positions of around four metres. The aim is to allow the crew to dry the equipment as soon as possible once they return from a ‘shout’. It’s important to be ready within a short time of their return.

Connect worked closely with Genius Hub who provided the control systems to each fire station, this giving them total control of when the heating would be used. Fast warm up times are essential too

Results of the Heating System

The installation of Connect Infrared Onyx heaters has delivered significant benefits to the fire stations. Positioned near the appliances at heights of around four metres, these high-powered units provide fast, targeted heat exactly where it is needed most. The system ensures that equipment and protective gear can be dried quickly and efficiently as soon as crews return from a shout, reducing downtime and helping firefighters remain operational in the shortest possible time. This rapid response heating not only supports readiness and resilience but also contributes to energy efficiency by delivering heat instantly and only when required.
