The Project

Introduction
Connect Infrared was approached by Mr. Tom King, the secretary of the church, with a request to provide assistance in improving the heating system within the main church building. The key areas of concern included the main congregation hall, the stage, and the music area, all of which play a vital role in weekly services and events.

The church’s existing heating system, which had relied on gas, was outdated and no longer functioning effectively. As a result, the space often felt cold and uncomfortable, particularly during the winter months. This lack of reliable warmth created a less inviting atmosphere for worshippers, which in turn contributed to a noticeable decline in congregation attendance. Recognising the importance of a welcoming and comfortable environment for fellowship, worship, and music, the church sought a modern, efficient, and sustainable heating solution to restore both comfort and attendance levels.

Challenge:

The church needed a fast, efficient heating system that enhanced their space aesthetically, while also being cost-effective and easy to control remotely.

Aesthetic Preservation: The church’s architecture and historic features are cherished by the local community, so preserving the look and feel of the interior was paramount. We had to ensure that the heating units were as unobtrusive as possible.
Efficiency & Sustainability: The church leaders emphasised the importance of a heating solution that would lower energy consumption, both for environmental and economic reasons.
Reliability and Long-term Performance: With the old boiler system on the brink of failure, it was crucial to implement a solution that offered reliability and long-term savings.

A thorough site assessment was carried out at Redditch Baptist Church to evaluate the existing conditions and determine the most effective heating solution. It is important to plan and prepare carefully, as poor preparation can significantly reduce both efficiency and manageability of the system.

At Connect, we understand that true efficiency comes from intelligent control. That’s why we work closely with Salus Controls UK, who provide the advanced control systems for our installations. In this project, their technology gave the church complete flexibility over when and how the heating is used, ensuring comfort without wasted energy.

The diagram illustrates the connectivity of the control network, showing how each zone is individually managed. By carefully identifying the heating needs of each area, we ensured that every heater is controlled independently delivering a warm, welcoming environment with precision, efficiency, and total peace of mind.

The installation

was arranged, confirmed and the dates booked for the 25^th and 26^th June 2025. The estimated completion was two days and would take three electricians on a daily basis.

The church was still operational but worked around the installation team. To ensure that all heaters worked safely and efficiently the electrics needed some upgrades but the church already had three phase supply which allowed 100 amps per phase.

THE FINISHED PROJECT
The installation completed, the commissioning of all controls has resulted in a fantastic new heating system for Redditch Baptist Church, an up to date way to control their heating, a new warm church for the congregation to share their time

THE CONCLUSION
After several months of dreams, expectations and hard work the whole project was completed in June 2025 and ready for the future and a new way of heating a Church. Keeping everything managed and controlled, ensuring the entire congregation are warm and comfortable.
